Here's the interior of the truck.  It had 189,000 when I bought it and I'm the 3rd owner.

I wasn't getting any air from the center vents so I pulled the cover off and found a dead mouse.

Not too long after I had the truck running I decided to install an adjustable timing gear and degree the cam.
Here's the engine with the valve cover off.

Here's it is with the adjustable timing gear installed.

I purchased the gear from Jim Putney from 22RE Performance.com
I purchased the gear a custom reground cam and a rebuilt rocker assembly from Jim.

I currently have 202,000 miles on the truck, 13,000 miles on the engine and get 20 mpg.

This is the 22R that sat on the ground for probably 5 years.  They guy had it covered with a sheet of plywood to keep the rain off it.

Dad and I tore it down to the block and head and hauled it to an engine rebuild shop in Phoenix.  About a month later we picked it up and started the reassembly process.  We cleaned and painted all the parts and had it clean enough to eat off of.

I ordered a new 22R sticker for the valve cover but it's not the correct one for the year.  I haven't been able to locate one of those.

Here's the engine installed.

This blog will document my restoration efforts of the 79-83 Toyota 4x4 Pickups.

I purchased this 1983 Toyota SR5 4x4 for $300 a couple of years ago.  The motor was on the ground it had spun a main bearing.  I had the motor rebuilt and got the truck running.  This began my "obsession" with the 79-83 Toyota pickups.  I now own an 81 4X4 Toyota truck and an 82 4X4 Toyota truck.
I'm not into rockcrawling and prefer to rebuild these trucks back to their stock configurations.  Right down to the wheels.
